I've found my RPi 3 to be very useful. I have two of them. One is a DX Spider node, the other I use with my Icom 7300 and digital modes. It won't take the place of my PC, but it is fun to play with.

40+ minutes to explain what a RPi is ?

The RPi 3 rocks, I use one for Allstar, And one for tinkering.

We need more coders to get full use of the power that needs too be unleashed.

Not everyone has a geek inside ... some of us are still human and thus limited in our knowledge (but willing to learn).

Not everyone has unlimited internet data and speed either.

In 2017? Don't get me wrong, I would love to own some land and live in the country, but it would require solid and unlimited internet, as is common in the 21st century.

    I live in the sticks.

    Internet and TV is overrated.

    Wildlife is way cooler. :)

You have internet, I have food.

I like your way of thinking and I must admit I am a little jealous.

RPi 3 is ok for running average type tasks but it runs an internal interpreter which uses up clock cycles. If you want to look at IO in real time at high speed you really have to learn a type of C++ and use the Arduino. Better to learn how to use this as you go into more involved radio support equipment.
