How to get an alert when somebody important is on the air - HamAlert

Some debate over should you set a source or not... Some have not set sources and it worked for them... for me, It didn't work without setting sources. YMMV

This may also become a tool the tuner-uppers use to interrupt a special event / celebrity QSO.

As a compliment to this, and only for the WSJT-X modes (FT8, FT4, MSK144, etc) I have found a useful Android app called WSJT-X Monitor (links below). It will monitor your station through your home WiFi.

It has alerts as well as other features. But the difference, to me, is that an alert will tell you not only that a DX station is OTA but that your station is receiving it. If you're a VHF enthusiast (like me) it can alert you when 6 or 2 meters is open. It doesn't use the Internet.

You have to setup WSJT-X to send information to this app. The app guides you through the setup (3 steps). (Simple as it is, some of my friends are still too lame to do it).

There's a free and paid version but, AFAIK, the difference is only a mapping feature on the paid version.

Who is important is very subjective

What makes one ham more "important" than another?

Are we, as individual members of the amateur service, quietly being ranked by importance by someone, somewhere?

Is this the beginning of some kind of amateur radio social credit system? A caste system perhaps?

It would be really cool to have some servers set up to where a licensed operator could display their status on a web page or an app.
The call, location, band , frequency and mode.
A status board so to speak.
    To allow contacts..
    Participation would be optional
    Hmmmmmmm.

Implying the YouTubers clan are "important" and some crying need for fawning, starstruck followers to know when their idols are on the air? What a joke.

And do something about the audio. That reverb/echo is terrible.

How does it feel to want?

    There. I commented. Happy now?

I was somewhat curious so I started to watch the video. When I saw it was some 9 minutes long I decided my curiosity did not reach the level where I wanted to devote that much time to watch.

Would there be a panel of important people to decide who is important? I vote for Jeff to be the panel chairman.

I was curious too, in a watching a train wreck kind of way. Made it only about 90 seconds to two minutes and came to basically the same conclusion as you.
I agree. AJ5J would be a wonderful panel chaiman...
