How do you travelers continually reprogram your VHF FM rig?

    I have one bank programmed with all the two meter repeater pairs, and remember that there are two different plans for spacing of channels - 15 kHz and 20 kHz.

    The other 9 banks in my Kenwood are programmed for the states I'm passing through. Some states require more than one memory bank, and I can link them. I also have one bank with 'common' frequencies - simplex frequencies, some FM satellites, and some listen only ones like FRS and GMRS and NOAA weather - those I have set to skip when scanning.

    I manage it all with a laptop computer, where I run CHIRP mostly, but also have the Kenwood software for the radio, and some others for other radios I may have with me. CHIRP lets me move a memory setup from one radio to another. On my latest trip, I had lost my files for the Kenwood for my last trip through Texas, so I imported them from an HT setup for a Baofeng that I used previously. It worked better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

    I am intrigued by the new HT from Rfinder that has the repeater database, including DMR repeaters, built in. Other radios are promised this year that will do the same.

    So basically, if you program all these repeater pair combinations into your rig, you will never have any need to "lookup repeaters" for any specific area you may be travelling anywhere within North America.
