How do *you* close a QSO?

Discussion in 'Survey Center' started by W0AEW, Aug 15, 2017.

?

On CW, what excuse do *you* usually use to bring a QSO to a close?

  1. Gotta run. XYL's calling me for dinner/lunch/breakfast.

  2. XYL's home with the groceries and needs help.

  3. I better QRT & see what the XYL's up to.

  4. QRN/QRM/QSB ruff, I better sign off before I lose you.

  5. I hear my mommy calling, better run.

Sorry gotta go.....have to answer nature's call.
    (The second part is optional).
I usually just say: "Gotta go. Nice chatting with you. XX0YYY / ZL1UZM clear after your final.

I claim a need to wrap up the QSO due to QSB, even if I'm on a repeater. ;)

Usually the "THX FER THE CHAT" thing, unless the xyl really is calling me... it has happened.

I am not much of a ragchewer, but when I do engage in an interesting chat on SSB or PSK it is indeed usually QSB that ends it.

waiting for someone that knows me to catch the irony in that :)

Some QSO go for hours, some for minutes. Knowing the difference is the art of conversation.
Occasionally the dog does need to go out and I'll either tie it off or ask if the station will be around in a few.
When I do have to go I simply gtg and sign. If it is a conversation I want to continue another time I make the effort to record likely freq and time before leaving.
I'm rarely abrupt unless it's obvious I don't care for a repeat engagement.

Not being a paper chaser or contester I lean more toward a good conversation outside of a local rag chew. Local, that's relative also. from here in the PNW (CN87tm) local can be into NV. It's just a case of the propagation.
