Hello, I have been doing a fair amount of POTA lately and it has been brought to my attention that all my logs that I upload to QRZ are reflecting my home QTH. I have been uploading the POTA log from my logging software and thought that it may not reflect my grid square as it may only show a park number. So recently I tried uploading the full ADIF file and checked to make sure that the grid square was correct and in the file. But even now it still shows my home QTH as the location and not the grid that the ADIF shows. Is there a setting that will default to the ADIF file grid? is there a place I can change this? I've had a lot of NE and SD activations and now have a lot of hunters contacting me because my QTH is showing and they needed my state I worked in for an award etc. Thanks for your help, Andy KF0DLU
Please email me the ADIF file you uploaded. QRZ doesn't retain them after import. Even though the location in your logbook default is your home QTH, data in the ADIF file should be used if it's available AND in the correct format. Formatting is often an issue with county and there can be issues if the county specified isn't in the state specified, but there shouldn't be any issues with grid. I'd like to take a closer look. kf8ki@qrz.com 73, Steve KF8KI
I am new to Ham radio and have been on hf less than a year. Recently I have been paying attention to the awards and progress. A lot of the QSO’s have been denied because of location discrepancies. ADIF files uploaded by POTA activators don’t appear to change their QTH so it doesn’t match with the actual QTH that is on my ADIF from Ham2K PoLo. When I edited one of those entries to correct it the entire log entry was deleted. With over 40 entries dq’ed on the grid squared award its troubling to a new operator chasing a new goal that I actually have achieved but can’t receive because of programming errors. How can this be corrected?
While I appreciate your frustration, do not confuse logging errors with programming errors. I assure you that QRZ's handling of QSO edits and ADIF uploading is tried and true and used by thousands of operators a day without issue. It is my personal responsibility on QRZ to investigate complaints of issues like this and it's extremely rare that a complaint like this actually results in finding an issue in QRZ code. The far more common case is a user's lack of understanding on how the tools work. Unfortunately, there is little we can do about operators uploading less than accurate information about where they were operating. As for chasing your goal, just because a QSO was disqualified initially for an award because of such a discrepancy doesn't mean it can't be corrected by either you or the other operator depending on who's logging was in error, but once the discrepancy is corrected, the QSO will become eligible to be applied to the award again. It may just be necessary to contact the other operator to ask them to correct their log if it was in fact the one in error. Regarding your vague reference to an edited QSO just being deleted, if you believe you legitimately identified an issue in QRZ function and can provide more specific details, I am happy to take a closer look. 73, Steve KF8KI
Hey Steve, I hope you will read this if I just add to this thread. I am having the same trouble with POTA stations and how they log a contact. I have been adding information in comments when I log FT8 POTA stations. I use the POTA app to see which park they are in and note the grid, state and park number. If they confirm in LotW, I look how they confirmed in QRZ. If I see that the QSO comes up with mismatches I use the information in comments to see if I can match their entry to fix the contact. When the LotW entry is the park location but the operator log entry in QRZ is his home grid, state and county. I send email, if they have one in QRZ, to fix their end to show the park information. They have all been very helpful in fixing the QSO contact to get the proper credit. Please let me know you saw. My email is n5nxs@flash.net Thanks for your support to the ham community. 73 Paul N5NXS
The same logs you send to the POTA App, upload that same adif file to LOTW, with your station location and grid where you did your POTA activation. Then download from LOTW to your QRZ log. You have to up your TQSL to match your location and grid where you activated from.
