So I am doing ok with practice software learning to copy. I also have an MFJ 557 combo keyer/oscillator so I can hear what I sound like. Is there any software or device that will let me actually see the accuracy of what I am sending in a test mode?

One idea is to wire your oscillator's speaker output (might want to use a resistive network as abridge) to a soundcard input and then use Fldigi's CW mode as a decoder.

You might try "Precision CW Fistcheck"

I set a cheap ($5.00) microphone on top of my keyer (and plug it into my computer), and can then "see" the code that I'm sending on my computer. It displays the letters, and the length of time of each dit, and dah (sort of like an oscilloscope...sort of).

Edit: Oh, and there is another option, if you are using a Winkeyer. NA0N wrote a cool little program that called "Iambic Master". You can read about, and download it here:

And here is a video of it in action.

I have fldigi on a computer. I can send with sidetone of radio (BK turned off, no transmit) and fldigi will hear it using the built in laptop mic and decode.

There are free apps that will work as audio code readers using the phone's microphone. Practice makes perfect, you'll get it!

PCW Fistcheck is my vote. I use it for setting up my bugs. It's free and easy to use. You do need a way to get the audio into the computer. I do what was suggested earlier, a USB microphone hung in front of the speaker. Lets you see the timing of the characters.
