I can’t figure out if the head unit has to be directly attached to the amp/tuner module or what wires would need to be run between. I could not find an ‘extension kit’.
It would cleanly replace my 400 and my 891 if I could mount the amp on the rear wall of my truck cab. And, No antenna change.

Well as usual the UK gets f&*ked over with the head unit costing £1599 or $2164.87 and the optima costing £2069 or $2801.00. Usually they have the decency to call the product something different for the UK market so we cannot compare prices as easily. Like the Mazda MX5 (UK) or Miata (US)

    Enjoy

It is better to buy directly in the USA.

Here's a good set of independent, "user" comparisons between the FTX and IC-705 - blog posts on size/weight, power draw, connectivity, and receiver comparisons (scroll down through the first post to find the FTX/705 posts):

    https://kk4z.com/

Reading Scott's subjective comparison, and the recent Sherwood test numbers (91 for the FTX and 88 for the 705) these both have very similar "good" receive characteristics, but interestingly, the FTX's receiver isn't on par with the FT-710 or FTdx10 (as many hoped/expected). It's a portable, field radio! And these are still both great, modern radios.

The power consumption figures are also interesting. The FTX draws measurably more than the 710.

Hoping for more IRL testing and comparisons like this, vs. the useless "unboxing" and read-the-spec-sheets posts/videos.

Can someone please test this rig on digital modes and report back as to whether or not it suffers from the same RFI-over-USB problem the IC-705 has?

The FTDX 10 has only HF/6M and a lot larger and heavier too, while the FTX-1F/Optima has HF/6 M /VHF/UHF/ in ALL MODES....That is why the cost is high...........Folks I hear a lot of bashing going on this new Yaesu.Does anyone owns a digital camera, tell me how much it is for the cost of it...and all of you folks....well...but not all folks bashes a product cause, what I see is this Yaesu FTX-1F/Optima is a tool...all the radios are tools, even cameras are tools.........What I am saying is that some radios has features that you would like have and some radios don't have features that would be great to have....There is NO radio on earth that has everything good in it as a PERFECT RADIO.....THIS ARE CALLED TOOLS folks..get over it !!!!
If you can't afford the price of this radio,go buy some other radio's that you can afford and own it for yourself and have fun...It is not the end of the world folks, life is to short for BASHING other manufactures...models...features...and etc......chill out and peace be with you......my 2 cents .

There are 10 pins on the Field model and the Optima has 8 pins on it. Both can be used for an amplifier if you wish to make your own connector cord to your amplifier. Both have a TX GND pins.

I loves me some Yaesu but The KX3 for the same price actually comes with a VERY GHOOD auto tuner.

Judging by this video, the quality of this radio is not impressive. It looks like it was made in some cheap Chinese factory...

I think we probably need to distinguish between the quality of the hardware and the quality of the firmware. Yaesu have been at this long enough that I'm pretty sure the hardware will be decently built. But I think they rushed the release (having made unachievable promises) - and the firmware has been terrible!

They managed to boost ICOM's sales by at least one - me. I had put a pre-release deposit on one when it was first mentioned and followed the plans with interest to the point where I was really committed to buying a battery powered portable. When the full specifications were published, I quickly realised that it was not the radio I was looking for and used the deposit I had paid to buy an IC-705 instead...

The video demonstrates the low quality of the hardware.
