Just saw this on the ARRL website:

"ARRL Receives Homeland Security Training Grant (Jul 18, 2002) -- The ARRL will receive a $181,900 homeland security grant from the US government to train Amateur Radio operators in emergency communication. "

My question is, aren't we already training ourselves everyday by using things like traffic nets and through events like Field Day?

Does this mean we now get paid to do this?

JCA, sir, you are not a lobbyist in washinton D.C., you are a mere peasant. you are not deserving this generous sum of money. now get back out into the fields and put such treasonous thoughts out of your mind, or we will have you reprogramed.

That covers the cost of the AREC courses. ARRL uses Connecticut Distance Learning Center, a consortium of all the colleges in CT. This of course costs money.

Receiving grants is not "being paid for ham radio".

The first grant was from a Ct. company and perhaps should have been administrated by a local organization. ARRL has been bashed pretty good for only training locals. They should have anticipated the flak and let a local bunch handle that one.

The last one.......Well the jury is still out. But the grant does not constitute any one Amateur getting paid for services rendered.

As to emergengy training as a whole, local ARES, Skywarn etc. and field day, contesting in a pasture, in particular, are inadaquite to the task. Most of the people doing the training are not them selves well trained. Further training for all involved is just good common sence.

Funny thing, it constitutes some money in someone's wallet in Newington . . . .

Not getting paid to be a ham? Yerite.

I was listening to the .940 net last night, SUPER HAM W5RXU, was blithering and blathering like a COMPLETE IDIOT about how proud HE was that ARRL etc. werre given several thousands of FEDERAL MONEY to ASSIST in "Homeland Security." Obviously he is a CRYPTO NAZI. Dosen't he know that PRESCOTT BUSH, Geo. W.'s GRANDFATHER was a NAZI SUPPORTER, a ACTIVE FINANCIAL ASSET to the 3th. Reich , and he was FORMALLY CHARGED with TREASON and SEDITION by CONGRESS. However, CRYPTO COMMIE Truman & the Rockefellow Power Brokers covered it up. OUR PRESIDENT is ACTIVELY IMPLEMENTING the FOURTH REICH. A curisory reading of "Mein Kampt" or "the Rise & Fall of the 3rd. Reich" would EXPOSE the ROAD we are RUSHING DOWN- a TOTALITARIAN, FACIST, TYRANNICAL, POLICE STATE. Idiots like W5RXU are TRAITOR to the United States, to the Constitution, and SPITS on the Sacred Graves of MILLIONS KILLED in COMBAT to protect HIS SCABBY TRAITOR POSTERIOR.
