    Have you had an FT-891? They are excellent radios.

    I had it's cousin, the FT857.

    very capable little radio, but a nightmare to operate while driving.

    everything in the #$%^#$%ing menu

    The TS480HX has every setting I need right where I want it.

    power, DNL, ATT, NR, etc right at your fingertips

    If my 480 ever dies, I'll check out the FT-891 and IC-7100 alarm clock next.

    I don't operate while driving and certainly not at the level of trying to dial in a signal with ATT, NR etc. 98% of the functions you use are in the simple menu section which is only 3 pages deep, 2 pages if you ignore the CW page. I don't find it cumbersome at all. It's literally 1 or 2 menu button presses to get to the menu I want, not any harder than pressing the function button. The tuner and DSP in the 891 are outstanding for the size and price. I've never had a 480, but they aren't in production anymore. Look like a cool rig though. I think/wish more modern radios should come with 200W or more.
