Been listening to SFO HF ATC all day (11.292 Mhz). Interesting stuff. Hearing planes clear from Japan to Hawaii, as well as the tower....s9+ all the way.

Being an air traffic controller would drive me batty...but the long-haul HF seems to be pretty laid back. Plenty of time to make corrections. :)

The mobiles have an enviable "tower" height, and you are in a good location to hear east-west traffic in the Pacific anyway. It's practically NVIS for you. ;)

    haha!
I used to listen to New York Radio handling the flights to/from the Caribbean. The dispatcher chick had a sexy voice :) "Nyarnk Radio".
There's plenty of websites where you can track the planes in real time and hearing them check in at their waypoints is kinda cool for a nerdy radio guy.

I was one of those hf ops back in the sixties. Interesting times, for sure. Now, listening in on hf air ops brings back a smile on my face.
