HF “blackout” today

    That was an experience that had me switching antennas thinking I blew something up. Threw this into my station log with a copy of the NOAA data page.

    I've seen this happen before. But it still took me by surprise today. First thought, what happened to my antennas.

    Funny stories are out there about hams working on their antenna systems not realizing the signal deopouts were from solar flares!

    I once thought my receiver croaked, I mean it was totally dead, so I replaced all of the tubes in the front end. There was no internet then and I had no idea that it was a CME. I was really upset thinking I was going to have to dig into that monster, it was my SX-101A. Next morning all was well again, and I heard from some other hams over the air about the solar eruption and the radio blackout.

    A good sign that things may be changing
    Some bands were not totally dead here
