    Herbert C. Sommers, WA9RNT SK

    Herbert C. Sommers, 85, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at 10:30 am, Friday, October 19, 2018.
    Herbert was born on December 7, 1932 to Marvin J. and Ruth Elizabeth (Wogoman) Sommers.
    After graduating high school, Herbert served his country honorably in the United States Navy.

    On November 24, 1956, Herbert married Mary Ilene Condon and she preceded him in death on May 26, 2011.

    Herbert worked for Whitehall Labs as a Maintenance Mechanic for over 40 years and Damon Corporation for 7 years before retiring.
    He attended Grace Community Church in Goshen and was a member of the Elkhart and Goshen Ham Radio Club.
    Herbert enjoyed computers and purchased one of the first home computers that became available.

    He is survived by his children, Blake (Lori Dell) Sommers, Timothy Sommers, Tracey (Frankie) Bell, and Betty (Robert Brewer) Warlick; six grandchildren, Dustin, Carl, Joshua, Dakota, Naomi, and Michaela; one great-grandchild, Talia Barnard; and one brother, Theodore Sommers.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 55 years, Mary; a granddaughter, Rachel A. Sommers; a great-grandson, Elijah Rogers; and his siblings, Donald Sommers, Mary Nelson, Carrie Newell, and Larry Sommers.

    Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 from 5-8 PM in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN 46561. A funeral service in Herbert’s honor will be on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 10 AM at the funeral home with entombment to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
    In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials are to Elkhart Center for Hospice, 22579 Old US 20 East, Elkhart, IN 46516.
