Has 20 meters been bad for everyone or just me?

Recently, I thought 20M was dead due to propagation. But then there was a contest, and 20M came alive with strong signals.

The problem with 20M, and all HF bands, interest in ham radio is fading out--except for contests.

You know, I agree with this. Even considering my circumstances, I'm amazed at how many contacts I make on the first try during a contest.

When I got my Swan 350 back and fired it up, I made a quick Canada Day QSO with a VE station on 20 SSB on the first try. And my first time on a tube rig at that! With my compromised antenna setup, that wasn't supposed to happen. Go figure.

    Hey, YOU!

Stop posting on The Zed and get on the air. You are the one killing A.R. :)

A more thoughtful analysis is that people today have many more activities competing for their interest and time.

They are being more SELECTIVE about the time they spend on air.

Also, people are afraid to set up an antenna system because it could upset there neighbors. I live in a non HOA neighborhood, without tall trees to set up a wire. I have a vertical in the corner of my backyard set with neighboring trees behind for a backdrop, and painted forest green. We have some troublemaking people rallying all the others against us. I don’t run a bunch of extra power, so I know I’m not effecting peoples electronics. They just don’t think they should have to see it.

I couldn't get anything on 20, so went to 40 and made some rumblings. Off to bed for me. Enjoy!

I had a GREAT week on 20m; Russia twice, New Zealand, Svalbard, Madeira Island. I got up early this morning to keep the streak going.

But there is a constant S3 noise. Bummer. Maybe now I should mow the lawn before conditions improve.....
