We've all been there. You get your ticket and prepare to make your first contact on a local repeater. Your hands are sweaty and you're nervous you're going to make a stupid mistake or sound like a "newbie." I made this video for new ham radio operators to feel a little more comfortable getting on-air for the first time!

Can you make your first contact if you are not making a YouTube video?

I'm pretty sure they have to go together.

Not a bad video Matt. Be on the lookout for the usual negative Nellies. I’m sure they will show up soon. Put on your big boy underwear and hang on.

Depends. They're really like peanut butter and jelly, imo.

Not sure what could be conceived as negative, but hey... I'm ready for the flames.

I agree with you but reality is a fluid concept here at times.

Why is it that my 12 year-old daughter has no problem talking to people all over the world via amateur radio but so many people in the 25-30 year-old age range are scared to death of talking to people? Why do Millennials have such a fear of talking to people?

In the real world (other than in emergency situations) strangers are disproportionally jerks or aggressively apathetic.

12 year olds just haven't been kicked in the teeth yet.

(edit - yes, I need some sunshine. A trip to the Caribbean would be nice)
