In this Episode of the Ham Radio 360 Podcast we discuss Winter Field Day with Tom Phleps WD8MBE. The annual Winter Field Day event is held the last full weekend of January (28-29 2017). Much like it’s Summer-time cousin, Winter Field Day (WFD) is focused on ham radio operations in less than ideal emergent conditions. Emergencies happen everyday, and usually when the weather isn’t cooperating! WFD like the ARRL Field Day gives Amateur Radio Operators a chance to hone their skills in those challenging environments while enjoying the camaraderie of the hobby. Winter Field Day- Step 1: Drive motor home to club designated location Step 2: Turn on generator Step 3: Turn on air conditioning Step 4: Have fun! It's Florida folks. What can I say?

Actually - the rules define three operating states: Outdoors, Indoors, and Home. 1) Home is where the radio and antennae are normally installed. 2) Indoors is a new (temporary) installation, with central heat. 3) Outdoors can be heated, but not by devices installed other than during the setup hours. Still - in Florida the above steps would probably be the same.
I will be operating with a ham buddy (KM4FIJ) from our deer hunting camp in the woods of west central GA. Off the grid, running off batteries. Outdoors, heat will probably be a campfire. Steve - KM4SLW
