    George R. Wedge passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2018. He was born in in Bristol, CT to the late Russell and Faith (Elmestedt) Wedge and graduated from Bristol High School in 1959.
    He served in the United States Army from December 5, 1963 to December 4, 1969 receiving an honorable discharge from the 17th Aviation Co. 1st Cavalry Division. He was on active duty in the Vietnam War for 13 months and 5 days as an Air Traffic Control Operator. He received the Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, 1 Overseas Bar and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

    In 1968 he married Marion (Thompson) Wedge (predeceased) and was married for 26 years.

    After the military, he was a firefighter for Bristol, CT where he was injured on the job and had to retire. He held positions at TransAmerica, Heathkit Electronics, and owned his own business, National Radio. George was an avid HAMM Radio operator (K1OLS) and an accomplished private pilot who at one point owned an Aronca Chief and a Piper Comanche.
    George loved being outside in nature being an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed boating with his family on Lake Pocotopaug in East Hampton where the family has a lake house and going boating in Narragansett with his daughter and son and law. George belonged to the Bristol Fish and Game Club where he taught hunter safety courses and was Trap Chairman. George spent countless hours and weekends bringing his daughter to horse shows and horseback riding lessons.

    In 2012 George moved to Richmond, RI to live with his daughter and son-in-law.

    George leaves behind his best 4 legged buddy, Duke, his daughter Heidi (Wedge) Edwards and son-in-law Brian Edwards of Richmond, RI, his daughter Robin Hagaman and her husband, William of Bristol, CT, a granddaughter, Rachel Jeffries of Bristol, CT, a grandson, Kyle Drapeau of Bristol, CT, granddaughter, Madison Hagaman of Bristol, CT, a step-son, Thomas Gilligan (predeceaded) of Torrington, CT, 2 brothers and their wives, David and Kathy Wedge, of Hampton, CT, Rusty and Carol Wedge, of Burlington, CT, one sister and her husband, Sally (Wedge) and Jim Kology, of Bristol, CT, and several nieces and nephews.


    The family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 from 4-7pm at the S.R Avery Funeral Home, 3A Bank St., Hope Valley, RI.

    A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 11am at the funeral home.
    Burial will follow in Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Exeter, RI.
