The FTDX3000 has been off for over a month and when I turned it on today, the display screen started to flash. I've cleaned all the ribbon cables, checked the bundled cable plugs and tightened circuit board mounting screws, but the problem continued. However, the flashing slowed the longer the radio was on. The problem has now gone away. (Radio has been on and off for an hour or two.)

I shut it down, replaced all the covers and placed it back in the op position. I turned it back on and still no flashing.

I've seen this problem reported before, but can't recall if anyone has found a sure fix. Acts like a capacitor problem to me. Any comments?

    Just an update:

    The display is DS7001, a GKTY43SNAH2E0 TFT and it's sandwiched in a
cluster to the Display-1 board. The pins on this board do not match the
pins on the TFT, so I suspect there is another ribbon cable and some
additional components between the Display-1 board and the TFT. Some
pictures of the TFT show this additional connection with components
actually mounted on the flexible ribbon cable.

So, when I say I've cleaned the ribbon cables, I may have missed a couple.

I can't find the two wire back-light connection on the Display-1 board
unless it's V19R8 and FB coming from one of three DC/DC converters. It
should be close to 20 volts. The TFT runs on 3.3 volts if I'm reading
    the TFT Datasheet correctly.

I also did not clean the Control Board side of the ribbon cable coming
from the Display-1 board. This requires removal of some conductive tape
    on the top shield.

Anyway, the display is still working, but I haven't shut the radio down
overnight to see if the problem comes back. It's normal for me to leave
    the radio on continuously.

Seems like I remember that the Clock battery is dead, And charges slowly over time.

    Enjoy.

Interesting... It's in the lower left of the schematic off pin 8 of Q3018 (IC on Control Board). The battery is a ML614R-TT31 (BATT LITH 3V 3.4MAH COIN 6.8MM). Guess that would be something to check!

    Hi Joe,
I searched the net for the same problem I'm having with my Ftdx3000 screen flashing. Did you ever find the fix for this? Mine did sit for maybe a year or so. When I turn it on the screen is flashing sort of white and dim with occasional moments of a good clear screen. But it never really goes away.

    Thanks for any help.

Well, I haven’t turned the radio off since I reported the flashing. It’s still working. Maybe it does have something to do with the battery. If I were you, I would check the battery voltage or just leave the radio on. Maybe turn the radio off but leave the power supply on. Ofcouse, your battery could be dead and not able to be charged. All speculation! Let us know what you find. I have not called Yaesu.

    Hi Joe and Curtis,
I have the same problem. Mine started after being off for a month or two. I checked the battery and voltage was 2.57. After leaving the power supply on for about 18 hours the voltage came up to 3.24 volts. I still have the problem and will leave it on for a couple of days and see what happens.
I want to get a new battery if I can find the proper replacement.

James, thanks for checking the battery voltage. That doesn't appear to be the problem, so it's back to the drawing-board. However, what if low battery voltage corrupts memory? (That doesn't explain why my display slowly came back to normal after a few hours.)

I am going to wait until after the Holidays to play. First I'll shut down the radio for a few days, but leave the PS on. Next, I'll shut both the radio and PS off just to see if my problem comes back.

Aliexpress does have the battery for 9.50. It's a ML614R-TT31. (You could also check with Yaesu.) Look at your circuit board and see how the battery is mounted then look at the picture on the Aliexpress site.

Also look for an alternative battery type with a standard type number. Fry's may have one; if it's a solder-in type, Batteries Plus (or similar) can usually attach solder tabs for a small charge (About $1.00) if you buy from them. Probably a lot cheaper than a replacement from the manufacturer.

The price I quoted from Aliexpress for the ML614R-TT31 was for a package of 10... Best bet may still be direct from Yaesu. If you replace this battery and it fixes your problem, let us all know.

Also, my radio was purchased from DX Engineering:
    December 7, 2016
    Serial Number 6G410076

It was sent to Yaesu for repair on March 27, 2017 (PA finals).
