    I remember when Packet Radio was going to be the death of 2-meter FM and simplex frequencies. Today, packet radio, FM simplex and repeaters are mostly fond memories in many areas. Time changes all. FT-8 will become obsolete and the novelty will wear off. Technology evolves.
