Had my 950 now for about 2 months.....IT IS GREAT.

Sub-menus? Where are they? Everything in mine is in one menu.
Keyer on/off, keyer speed, and mic gain ARE on the front panel. If you're a guy who always messes with his processor and turns RF output up and down a lot, then the 950 is not for you.
I don't know what you mean by "tune up." I hit the tune button on the 950 and I'm good to go in a few seconds.
Boat anchors are fun, too, but the 950 is a great radio.
I like mine, the menu isn't that big of a deal to me, and I've even read the manual. I'm getting a lot of great audio reports and the receive is swell too.

It might work good. But it's just plain butt UGLY!
I mean, look at it:
On the other hand...
Que the music!
OK, I'll bite. What's ugly about it?
Big old gawdy display. Looks like something out of a star wars movie.
Whatever happened to Pretty rigs like this one:
Or even this:
Now those are pretty radios. Those Yaesu's look ugly IMHO...

My new radio is even uglier.
But it works real good.
Ugly looks versus receiving? Guess I will take receiving first, and look at my Sony TV when looking is important.
But then I am weird, and listen to the audio as opposed to looking at the front panel.
And those Collins boat anchors work, but what is pretty about them? Looks like old rusty metal to me.

Nice to meet you
I did a dress-up of FT-950 the other day.
FT-950 became very cool!
I like FT-950.
