    Can't figure out the MOX feature in my new FT-891. Supposed to give carrier output, i.e. for adjusting an external tuner when working SSB. In the '891, the process appears to be: F key > Function 2 > MOX > press the MULTI knob. When I do that, I get a few more amps on the d.c. power supply and the red transmit light comes on, but zero RF output, in any mode. Only way to tune the antenna is set CW mode, use a straight key, and go key down. No help so far in the Yaesu Op manual, Advance manual, Google, etc. What's the secret?

    MOX on SSB produces no output power unless you talk into the microphone.

    If MOX + FM or RTTY produces no output power, that seems weird.

    WB2WIK, right, no output on *any* mode including CW. I'm used to my trusty old FT-767GX, with the MOX button on the front panel. Press it and you get full carrier output, no matter what. Gotta have it to adjust the tuner.

    MOX = PTT Lock.

    F key > Function 2 > MOX > Press and HOLD the multi function knob.

    I found this out:
    In the menu, item 07-12 "PC KEYING" for digital CAT audio, this setting needs to be OFF for MOX and CW mic PTT outputs to generate a carrier.
    It would seem that CAT control uses MOX, but needs audio rerouted to the rear. Setting this to DAKY routes the audio to the data input. Leaving this OFF brings the output back to the local tone generator. (at least I assume this is how it works)
    I was having the same issue with my FT-891 all of the sudden. I would always use the mic PTT in CW mode for my manual tuner, and after setting up the radio for CAT control, it suddenly stopped working. I started changing settings back to default according to the manual's defaut parameters and the function was re-enabled after changing 07-12 back to default "OFF."

    Better late than never?
