I recently bought a new FT-818ND and although I'm happy with it, I find the S-Meter is really inaccurate & generous; people who would normally give an S3 are full scale.

Also, can anybody tell me if the ALC meter on these are meant to be laggy? I'm finding that the rise & fall of the bars on this setting tend to stay virtually at full when talking with a very slow decrease of the meter.

In the manual, it's mentioned that the ALC should be set so that a few segments show up when talking into the mic but when I do this I find my audio & output power is far too low.

Is there a better way to set up SSB?

the meter/display is too small to see anyway LOL

I bought the SOTABEAMS speech compressor.
It goes between the factory mic and radio.
I simply got on the air with a friend to adjust mic gain levels

Do you find the speech processor significantly improves your audio, and does it work in all modes?
