I need to purchase a back lamp to my Yaesu, specifically I believe
Q1000083. I have searched and have not found much luck in looking.
Hopefully I am on the correct forum. I would appreciate any help. I
know there is an older answer as to using a resistor and led. I just want to
get in and get out so the older one would be fine. 73's Bruce N1TLR

LEDs don't usually last any longer than low voltage lamps . . . so I prefer to stick with lamps.

What is this one like? Presume it's a wire-ended type, so any small 12V wire-ended one will do !

Buy some small ones from your local electronic store.

    hi,
Thanks that is why I was trying to get away with as little as possible lol
Not really sure have not taken apart yet, was going by the part number Q1000083 for a Yaesu FT-2500M.
Unfortunately when you live near the North end of the State of Maine any electronic store is less plentiful
than the Canadian Lynx. I was scouring online, but have found mostly lamps with the ends on them or the wrong voltage.
I will look again. Did email Yaesu and should hear tomorrow. Bruce N1TLR

I'm pretty sure these are tiny wire-ended ones, so I would just look for some on ebay or whatever . . .

I have a whole pack of them I use in all sorts of rigs and also automobiles !

This problem (bulbs in FT-2500M) has been reported for 20 years (since 1998).
Yaesu USA normally stocks these bulb replacements (I just ordered some for FT-707 repair).

QRZ Technical Forums (Archive, July 2011)
    http://forums.qrz.com/index.php?threads/ft-2500-m-no-backlight-easy-repair.303766/

    Q1000083 - DIAL LIGHT 10 VOLT 2500 SERIES 1.20
    Q1000086 - LAMP 10V/60MA CLEAR CAP (2400/5100) 1.25
    Q1000087 - LAMP 10V/60MA ORANGE CAP 1.25
    Q1000088 - LAMP 10V/ 60MA RED CAP (2500) 1.25

Scott, KB0NLY used grain of wheat lamps (found at most well stocked hobby shops) rated for 12 to 16 volts. The higher the rating of the bulb the longer they will last.

The Yaesu FT-2400 has a photosensor that dims or brightens the backlight bulb for the LCD display -- based upon the light level of radio's environment.
IF the Yaesu FT-2500 uses this same circuit (photo sensor), then you should check that photo sensor first (if it failed).
