either the charger or me or both malfunctioned and in ? 30 minutes i smelled fumes. looked and saw a smoking big fat
batt. grabbed the wires and dropped it on the deck in snow for 3 days.
retrieved the charge cable and for fun checked batt volts. looked good so i plugged it on a radio, looked good so i keyed it, looked good so i keyed am. volts dropped just .8v.'
tried a good same batt and it looked the same as the fat one!!!
so the fat smoked lithium looks ok...??? i gotta say, how come?? didnt expect it

Most likely capacity is way low. It won't last long.

"fat, smoked, lithium, ok" should not be used in the same sentence. :)
I look at it this way, the grenade (battery) has had the pin pulled and the spoon has stuck in the down position from now... Just a matter for time.
I know electrically it measures OK, but the other mechanical 'stuff' is just waiting to complete the cycle.

So what do you do from here? Store it out in the shed in a metal paint can? Throw it in the trash for pickup? What's the proper method for disposal?

In your area look for a recycling center that accepts lithium batteries and turn it in to them.

funny thing is i lost a better one, 6 amp because i let it discharge too far.
this one is same as another. both look alike so far with load tests.
    report back later.

way too much worrying goin on here!!

No worries here. Just an informed opinion/comment. Lots of energy stored in a Lithium battery and toxic fumes when they let good.
    Good Luck,

Disassemble it and post detail pics of individual cells, BMS, etc.
