Frederick “Fred, Steve, or WA8KJJ” Steven Clinger, of Galion WA8KJJ is now a silent key

    Frederick “Fred, Steve, or WA8KJJ” Steven Clinger, of Galion, passed away at Crestwood Care Center in Shelby. Frederick was born on March 15, 1934, east of Upper Sandusky, to Charlie and Ruah (Smith) Clinger. He married Harrietta (Seif) on August 28, 1954.

    Fred was a licensed radio engineer, former chief engineer and news director at WBCO radio in Bucyrus, Ohio; and a “Ham” amateur radio operator for many years. In 1975, he went to work for the Autocall Division, Federal Signal Corporation, Shelby, where he was international sales engineer selling and installing fire alarms in the U.S., South American and the Middle East. When Autocall closed in 1992, Fred and his associate, Ken Mead enjoyed servicing many Autocall customers with acquired inventory and knowledge.

    Fred enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and the backyard trains!

    Fred is survived by his children; Craig (Brenda) Clinger, of Galion, Cathy (Terry) Windsor, of Fredericktown, Cory Clinger, of Columbus, grandchildren to whom he was known as “Pockie”, Adam Clinger, of Ashland, Andrew (Heaven) Clinger, of Georgia, and Corbin and Carly Clinger, of Columbus, great-grandchildren, Caleb, Owen, Adelynn and Oliver Clinger, of Ashland, and Edgar and Cyrus, of Georgia, brother; Bill Clinger, and nieces and nephews.

    Along with his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his wife; Harrietta (Seif) Clinger, stepfather; Gerry Probst, brother; Henry A. Clinger and infant grandchild.

    Friends may call on Friday November 15, 2024, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Mark A. Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way N, Galion. Funeral service will take place immediately following with Pastor Heather McLeod officiating. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery.

    Memorial contributions may be made to the Christ Covenant Global Methodist Church.
