The Westcott Wireless Preservation Association will be hosting a Radio Special Event Station on Saturday, May 3rd at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Burton J. Westcott house in Springfield, Ohio. A special QSL card will be issued to any station with a confirmed QSO and sends a QSL card and SASE to the Westcott Wireless Preservation Association.  The QSL card will be free. Westcott Wireless Preservation Association will be on the air with the call sign W8AGA. This will be the very first modern use of this call after being silent for 80 years and club’s inaugural event.

This Westcott Wireless Preservation Association is centered on serving the Westcott House Foundation by preserving radio operations and programs at Frank Lloyd Wright's Burton J. Westcott house. Frank Lloyd Wright designed Ohio's only prairie style house for Burton and Orpha Westcott and their two children, John and Jeanne in 1907. The house is now undergoing extensive restoration and will be open to the public as a house museum.

After some research into this project, it was found that John Westcott was an amateur radio operator in this house in the early 1920's. His rig consisted of an 800 watt rotary spark gap transmitter and other equipment appropriate for ham radio operations of that day and his call used at the house was W8AGA. The house will be restored with a vintage spark gap transmitter for demonstration purposes. Other opportunities are also being researched for radio programming at the house. This will also serve as a great site for special event stations and other antique wireless activities.

From May 2nd through the 4th, 2003, the Westcott House Foundation will be hosting the Spring Retreat for the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy of Chicago, Illinois. The Conservancy was responsible for saving the Westcott house for preservation and oversees its restoration. The board of Directors of this organization meets every Spring to go over organization business and preservation issues. Each year, the organization tries to meet where significant restoration or preservation events are taking place with one of Wright’s buildings. There is no better place to do such an event this year than the Westcott house, which has benefited greatly from the Conservancy’s advocacy of Wright’s masterpieces. In honor and celebration of this event, the Westcott Wireless Preservation Association will be hosting a Radio Special Event Station on Saturday, May 3rd. We hope to hear you on the air!
