I got it by using a SignalLink SL1+ and plugged it into the mic port on the faceplate of the 706. SignalLink has the proper 13Pin din cable for their devices, but I didn't have it, and it's 22$ just for the cable. I'm aware of the RTS loophole, but didn't have all the necessary parts to make a "safe" PTT device (I.E the transistor and resistor). I have in the past gotten away with using JUST the USB RTS pins unbuffered, but I didn't want to do that to my 706 for fear of damaging something "important".

Also, I did end up reading the command set from the manual, and I didn't "get" the problem until I read the same set from a manual for an Icom that DOES PTT from the CI-V cable.

Without the need for a SignalLink, there are several cables on ebay that provide both CI-V and Audio/PTT via either the 6 pin mini din or the giant 13 pin din for about 40USD.

    Thanks for the reply.
