Define what you mean by, "this economy." 4.2% unemployment, inflation 2.3%, stock market near new all-time highs.
In 1955, the Hallicrafters SR-500 retailed for $1499. In today's dollars that would have been $18k. Just saying!
Since you did not elucidate on, "this economy" I am limited in mind reading to know your point. Second request for a definition of, "this economy."
I was repeating the phrasing of the original poster and applying it to luxury cars. Good grief. There is still a market for luxury items even when the little guy is getting pinched.
*** Polar modulation. AKA "Envelope Elimination & restoration ( EER ). They basically convert the SSB audio into a complex "quadrature" signal. One leg FM modulates the carrier, and the other one amplitude modulates the final stage by varying its supply voltage. Just like an old fashioned tube transmitter from the 50's. Another radio that does this is the "QMX" from QRP-labs. They get 5W SSB out from four little tiny BS170 MOSFETs with no heat sink!
And the Signal/One CX7A that I have on my desk retailed for $2200 in 1970-ish. Coincidentally, they didn't sell very many of them.
Again I would love to change my opinion on this topic and I do wish FLEX and its customers the very best. 73
Flex lost me after having a preorder in for the 6600m and a Maestro for nearly two years. About two years into it they started badgering me about buying the Maestro but couldn’t sell me the 6600m. Why would I buy a Maestro without the 6600m? I hear they upgraded some people to the 8000 series who were waiting for a 6000 series radio and now they release the Aurora without those same people knowing that the Aurora was on the horizon. I ended up buying a 7610 and now the 7760. Both have been money well spent. I get what the Aurora is all about but I don’t trust Flex as a company. I just think they have a shady way of doing business which was proven in my experience with them. I kind of feel like amateur radio is a side business for them and not their main focus. Curt WU3U
The colors don't match but I think adding a rebuilt 30L-1 would get the job done and leave $9,000 in the bank! WA4NUN
They should find it easy to get a job, "in this economy" as unemployment is at historic lows. Lower than 5% is considered full employment by the federal reserve.
