I tried that and it is in the dial out group. Checking FLdigi settings.
I have a TS-570S which presumably uses pretty similar CAT settings. I run fldigi on Linux. I can pull up my settings if it'll help; what are you using for the CAT interface? I have my rig hooked up to a USB-serial adapter.
I did exactly that. One as a desktop and the other to learn on and once I get a program to work I put it on my desktop.
A second Raspberry Pi is certainly good to learn on, but simply using a second (or third or fourth) SD card with a separate image on it could be just as useful.
On the newer ones, You can use a USB thumb drive to change the OS for what you want to play with.
Those micro SD cards can be a PITA to swap.
