I just started with a mint used ICOM IC-T7H 2m/70cm ht. It's not too hard to program, and it works pretty well for me. The IC-T7H I got came with its own 9.5v 650m rechargeable NiCad battery as well as a 4 AA cell battery holder. The "new" configuration -- the IC-T7H Sport -- only comes with the AA cell battery holder. I believe the radio emits 5w and 4w on 2m and 70cm when running off the NiCad battery or a DC adaptor and 2W on both bands when running off the 4 AA cells.

I'm eventually upgrading to a new dual 2m/70cm band mobile -- a Yaesu FT-8800r, which can transmit at 50w/35w on 2m/70cm, has wideband receive, and has a cross-band repeat function.
