Field Day being exploited by contest stations

Field day for me is standing in a field with a HT making a contact. My wife congratulates me for being out standing.

 

I don't know why you think CW is only 1 point per contact. CW has been 2 points for years, as much as digital, even in the 2021 Rules. Phone contacts remain 1 pt each.

 

I think the biggest Class D I ever worked was 11D, maybe 10 years ago. All I could think was, "I wonder who pays that electric bill."

 

Another common but incorrect FD scoring belief is that Sections are multipliers. I even saw it mentioned in this year's Soapbox. Sections are multipliers in some League events, but not Field Day.

 

It is very much a contest over here. You score points and the RSGB publishes a results table. In my youth (fifty years ago) we used to run our entry like a military campaign. Planning would start months in advance and a small convoy of vehicles would set out the day before for somewhere isolated with space for large masts and antennae.
