Perhaps for the same reason why I am trying to figure out why someone in 5-land would assume hams who are from VE-land, are somehow only limited to doing things in VE-land.
WHY bring nationality into the discussion? If someone is qualified, and meets the requirements for application - I couldn't care less if they hail from Canada, USA, Korea, India, wherever. Geez.... really? We NEED THIS TO HAPPEN.... FCC field engineers? Looking for VIOLATIONS??? Isn't that what it would take to help address the ever-growing "problem frequencies"? And folks get in a bind over where they are FROM??? Wow Dave W7UUU
Wow! I am disappointed to see two of the posts in this thread. It seems like this thread should either be moved to the Just Talking --Political cesspool forum, or it should be totally eliminated. I'd also strongly suggest a minimum of at least temporary bans for two of the posters. We don't need this kind of hatred on a ham radio site. Ken
And (since this post disappeared yesterday I'll repost it) some people are assuming things (their bread must always fall butter side down when it falls) I will add that I worked with several fine engineers named Nguyen at TI, and noticed in recent years a lot of Nguyens working at the FCC, one who was quite helpful at the local office who helped us with a situation. Quia homines formam sumpseris quod semper pessimus? I had also posted this quick excerpt from Wikipedia: Nguyễn is the most common Vietnamese family name. Outside of Vietnam, the surname is commonly rendered without diacritics as Nguyen. Vietnamese pronunciations between south and north are similar, except for the distinct tone between the two dialects. By some estimates forty percent of Vietnamese people bear this surname.
A Vietnamese co-worker and I were casually chatting one day and he pipes up, "Hey, I bet you don't know what the English translation of Nguyen is". (His last name) Of course, I said no, I didn't. His reply: "Smith."
