I worked today 22/10/20 on 15 MTRS CW ETS4IC was under the impression was Ethiopia. Says his name was Emilio and QTH Badajoz. When I looked up the QTH it turned out to be a town in Spain near the border with Portugal.

There is no record of this callsign on QRZ or Hamcall. Is it possible this was a pirate??

Any other stations worked this call?

Please drop me an E Mail G0CBO.Rodney@outlook.com

Yes, keying is very iffy. I just worked him thinking it was Ethiopia. Grrr!

A busted call (or miscopied call) is the most likely explanation. But you really should not make the assumption that if a call is bot @ QRZ or even Hamcall that it isn't legitimate. At least @ QRZ, a non-U.S. call has to REQUEST they be listed. It's not automatic, as QRZ only downloads the FCC's list, which is U.S. hams only.

    Duh, I'd say so.

    No mystery here!

The "mystery" may be whether it was a mis-read/mis-copied call, or a poorly sent call... In CW, proper spacing is EVERYTHING! Either way, busted.
