We see the subject comment a lot. I wanted to take the opportunity to tell people that a mismatch between the email address in the ad and the email address shown on the call sign page isn't necessarily a red flag. The reason is that the call sign page address is completely voluntary and users are allowed to put any value they want into it. In effect, there are TWO email addresses for every user, the one on the call sign page, and the user account email address which is kept secret by QRZ.

QRZ will never disclose a user's account email address. Users, however, may disclose it if they so choose by showing it in their call sign information. We don't check what goes into the call sign data and guarantee nothing in that respect.

Many users, concerned about spam, will put a secondary or perhaps throw-away address on their page. Some people setup a separate email account just for such purposes. Again, we don't check those. The only email address that matters to the QRZ administrators is the account confirmation address, and although our moderators may see and act upon this info, it will otherwise remain undisclosed by QRZ.

Another fact that we're proud of is that for the past 24 years we have NEVER sent out a mass mailing, NEVER sold or given away email addresses to advertisers (or anyone), and do not participate in targeted marketing campaigns. In short, we have refused every request for email lists, ever since day one. If you suspect that you got spammed as a result of joining QRZ, it would have to be something that was shown on your call sign page because it did not come from QRZ HQ.
