Tonight, in the evening, 2115z I was in QSO using 10w on 3.569 at about 15 wpm and heard my own signal coming back about S3 at the end of every dot/dash. Say 40/80mS delay. I could hear it at 3.51 and 3.79, at 100w, but it did not exist on 160 or 60m band.

Half an hour later the echoes had gone.

Last year I reported similar echoes which were reckoned to be from the Magnetosphere. Are they returning? Can anyone else hear them? http://forums.qrz.com/showthread.php?327571-S9-echos-on-80-metres-probably-via-the-magnetosphere

THEY ARE OBVIOUSLY NOT ROUND THE WORLD ECHOS AS HEARD ON 20m AND ABOVE!

    Hey Andrew,

Fascinating ! I am well aware of Magnetospheric propagation on VLF, but have never heard of it on HF !

I'm not sure how this qualifies as Amateur radio news?

I've been hearing that on TWENTY the past few weeks! EXTREMEly low absorption. Enjoy it while you can!

Me too, but don't you think this is different than on 80 meters?? I've often heard "echos" even from other stations as I copy both short and long path at the same time. This often occurs when I hear stations in the far North West when we are both near the gray line.

But on 80?? Certainly it's possible that it's 'round the world, but much less likely, especially if one of the paths crosses well into daylight.

Of course, maybe it's that wacky, bizarre propagation that doesn't follow typical straight line paths you are always talking about. Then again, maybe it's Martians repeating it back to us!!! :)

When you get moon bounce on 80 meters that is Big news.

Maybe this is where the name "ECHO LINK" comes from!

Most likely chordal hop.....multiple reflections without intermediate ground hops.
