AT-1 was a poor design - W1ICP had an article in QST about 1955 which greatly improved it, but the changes were rather radical! The power transformers in the DX-35 and DX-40 were undersized and unreliable. They look nice but have a terrible failure rate, particularly if the rig powers the VF-1 VFO via the accessory socket. 73 de Jim, N2EY
I have an AT-1 buried somewhere out in the garage. I was thinking of restoring it but It only had 80, 40, 20 and 10/11M. It was designed before there was even a 15M band.
Actually, the AT-1 works on 15 meters - just set the bandswitch to the 10 meter position. This is covered in the manual. HOWEVER It is quite easy to tune up on the wrong harmonic if you're not careful. btw, what we now call the 15 meter band was allocated to amateurs in 1947 at the World Radio Conference in Atlantic City. However, US amateurs were not authorized to use it until May 1 1952. I am not sure exactly when the AT-1 was designed, but it was clearly after 1947, so the designers of the AT-1 knew 15 meters was on the way. 73 de Jim, N2EY
I had a DX-60 that developed chirp, and when it was fairly new! My elmer helped me trace it to a bad 6CL6 tube! New tube fixed it right up. Something to try if all else fails. Pete
