Pia Wurster, DL7PIA, isn’t just another young ham—she’s a force on the airwaves. From learning Morse code at age five to earning her amateur extra-class license at 12, Pia has embraced ham radio with unstoppable enthusiasm. Now 18, she’s racking up DX contacts, winning awards like the Youth plaque in the DX Marathon, and even organizing a special event station to mark her hometown’s 1250th anniversary. Whether she’s operating portable from mountaintops or proving that ham radio still has a thriving future, Pia is setting the pace for the next generation. Thanks Kevin for the video and the concise summary in the text. The phrases in the text, 'she's a force on the airwaves' and 'setting the pace for the next generation' are absolutely true.

You have to hear her in contests. She's incredibly fast and very precise, both in SSB and CW. She handles wild, crazy pileups with ease and coolness. It's really fun to listen to her work through a pileup.

Pia actually is not a good amateur. A real amateur confirms a QSO. I was taught that a QSO is complete after sending a QLS card or "in modern times" a QSO is electronically confirmed. You write about her here on QRZ.com, but I don't see her confirming a QSO on QRZ.com or LoTW - sad.
I'm not judging her skills, she's smart and quick operator, speaks many languages in high level. I'm judging her approach to other radio amateurs. It looks like she is focused to herself only. It looks like sooner or later people will not like her and she will be burned out as a person. ( It is typical to " I I only I " people )

    Dear Jan,

you should first look at the facts before attacking and insulting other people in public for no reason.

    The facts are:

    - we had a QSO on 21.06.2024 on 20m

    - this QSO was already confirmed by me in 2024 on LoTW. I confirm all my QSOs regularly on LoTW. My last upload was on 10.02.2025.

    - in my LoTW the QSO with you is confirmed like you can see on the attached picture below.

As everybody can read on my qrz.com page I confirm on LoTW. I can´t see any reason for all these lies from your side.

You don´t know me as a person and I really don´t know why you are judging about me. I have learned, that hams don´t act like this and that we treat each other with respect.

SA7KZA. I have recently had the pleasure of having 2 QSOs with Pia and a number of emails also. I was recently at a local school teaching youg students about ham radio. 3 of the students spoke to Pia and she later sent to me, by post, a QSL card for each of those students plus a card of her village. So where you get the idea that Pia does not QSL is bewildering. I find Pia to be the most kind and thoughtful of radio hams. Pity there are not more like her. I suggest you make a public apology to Pia promptly otherwise you will be the bad apple in the barrel. Thank you. John, G3UCQ

SA7KZA, It was very irresponsible to post denigrating remarks about Pia that are clearly not true. The screen shot she posted shows she confirmed your QSO in LoTW. I've had several QSO's with YL Pia on both SSB and CW. She has confirmed all of my QSO's in LoTW and sent me her QSL card direct. It's obvious by watching the video that she is a caring, devoted, and dedicated amateur radio operator with exceptional intellect. Her CW and SSB skill set are second to none, not to mention her superb contest talents. The ham radio population is aging and needs more young people to become hams. Our hobby could use several thousand new young amateur radio operators like Pia to keep it alive and secure its future!

SA7KZA. When are you going to apologise to Pia? I suspect never as you hide behind your computer screen. We need more like Pia but no more like you. 73 John, G3UCQ

Just In case you don't get my email Pia, CONGRATULATIONS! Young Lady! Always a Pleasure to work You and your family! From someone who gets more than a qsl card! EG: Photos, emails, letters! I think Jan put his "foot in his mouth" before checking, "never mind people make mistakes"! Maybe a polite message, I did not get a qsl or qso confirmation would have been better, old man Jan, a lesson to be learnt here for everyone. Keep up the good work, and enjoy the hobby Pia. Regards to your whole family from England. 73 & 88. Colin
