Tempco socket-mount heater. Grainger has them; maybe tractor supply also? Popular for livestock stalls & chicken coops, safer than bulbs.

Why would you use 120 Volt socket-mount heaters to test at 12 Volts ?

You would need about 10 of them for good testing.

    10 X $20 = $200. A new power supply would be cheaper.

Read the line I quoted. @W8NGA wanted to know if they were still available anywhere. Statements of applicability & value were beyond the scope of my reply. For all I know he wants to warm his coffee.

yes you can't have the hot wire not on the plastic. It would make a very efficient foam cutter for rc plane wings.
Our town water has a lot of mineral content and the "used" water had some "rusty brown" color to it but still disapated the heat nicely.

The setup wasn't very elaborate, I bolted some #10 stranded on the hot wire, adjusted the length for 35A. Admittingly "fiddley & fragile" but everything stayed in place
I dont remember using a very long piece of nichrome for 12V @ 35Amps
