    Hello all,
Please may I request help with my software search?
I have aquired a pristine Drake R8 and have had the
VHF conversion carried out. I am looking for software
to control the receiver from a Windows PC and hopefully
a display something like my Icom IC-7300. Am I asking the
impossible? I am 79 and not as technically up to date as perhaps
I should be. An email reply would be great
    Any help really appreciated
    Thank you
    Regards
    Peter

    Hi Peter.
Looks an amazing RX but from what I can glean from a bit of reading, the remote control is from a pretty standard serial terminal programme and can only pass ASCII characters.
Serial port data rates are not so fast so would not support the data rate required for a waterfall display.
AFAIK the supplied software ran under DOS so must have been only text based.
Any Windows terminal app should be able to communicate with the RX but pretty sure you won't get the nice graphical display that you would like.
