Dr. Charles Fisher Carroll, Jr. WA4SSM, died on July 2, 2019, following a long period of deteriorating health.

Charlie was born June 24, 1926 and grew up in High Point, NC. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was a Radioman on the aircraft carrier USS San Jacinto. Following the war, he enrolled in Guilford College and graduated in 1949 with a BS degree. Charlie graduated from the University of Maryland Medical School in 1953 and came to Concord, NC in 1958, serving as Pathologist and Medical Examiner for 39 years at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital and North East Medical Center. He enjoyed bridge, carpentry, genealogy, golf, amateur radio, reading, traveling (traveling to all seven continents) and his life was consumed with a thirst for education and continued learning. In later years, he and his wife Marilyn spent the winters in Punta Gorda, FL and met many new friends there.

Until his declining health prohibited him from being on the air, he made numerous CW contacts around the world and more recently, used digital means of communication. He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Carroll, Danny’s wife, Raychel and great-granddaughter Mallory. In addition to his wife of 66 years, Charlie is survived by six children and their spouses; ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren and other extended family members.
