    Yes, frequency markers. They generate a signal every interval up the band. Much like switching supplies do every 34 khz, .to infinity and beyond.

    120 kHz was used for calibrating Tuning Forks.

    Commonly used in the first TV remote controls.

    Our calibrator crystals go to 120 KHz...

    My wife's folks had one of those acoustic remotes. Interesting technology...or lack thereof. :)
