After I installed AdBlocker on this PC that annoyance is non-existant.
It's a safe and free download. I paid a $10 donation before I tried it out. It's well worth that and more.
It's so much nicer browsing everywhere now without ANY pop ups or advertisements. The cookies and SPAM related issues are gone.
Interest based ads are a pain no more for this OM. My Norton Quick Scan feature finds vy little to detect and remove as far as cookies now.

A few people have said it, but much advertising you see these days is based on your browsing history... based on cookies mostly, ads are served to match your browsing history.

So if you surf a lot of porn and dating sites, you're going to see porn and mail-order girlfriend ads. Surf a lot of car sites, and you will see car ads. Surf political sites and your computer will cry or something.

Mine has been programmed to self-destruct in the event of political crap infestation. Have to be careful; already lost on PC to that!

Most of my online time deals with parrots, squids/octopus/cuttlefish, and physics. When I see ads, they can be kind of interesting. I like to think I make the algorithms go to the very edge of their programming :)

Technically speaking the ads are avoidable or possible to ignore. They are a bit of a pain when viewed from a mobile device.
I'm a bit of a hypocrite as I consistently make use of information and communication here while blocking ads.
I may not contribute to Fred and Company but I do attempt to pay back or pay forward by helping fellow hams as I'm able.
I have it on good authority that without qualification, that is enough.

I know it won't happen, but... I wish all ads were on one page NOT included with the topics of the site. I've seen sites that the advertisements were so 'thick' that you have to hunt for where you are supposed to click to get where you want to go. I typically don't go to those sites anymore. If it's more trouble to get to what you want to see, then why the #%$$ go there to start with??! There are very few things that I've looked for that couldn't be found in more than one place. Site owners might keep that in mind. I won't suggest the advertisers keep it in mind, I'm not sure they have one or know how to use the little they do have...

I can say with 119% certainty, that not once during my entire life have I ever bought anything new as the result of following up on an advert. Because I have never bought anything new but food & some of my socks.
All advertising is offensive to me. All advertising; all 119% of it. This is neither rhetoric nor a joke.
I am attended the long and broad of Europe by skips, charity-shops, municipal-dumps, eBay and the Sisters of Mercy.
I really ought to be in the Guinness Book of Records, and am thinking of applying herewith.
And I have the documents to prove it.

Remember a few years back when every web site had ads for the X10 webcam? I always wondered if anyone ever bought one.

I was a sucker for X10 garbage for many years. Advertisements got me hooked.

I have a lot of X10 gadgets that let there smoke out over the years.

They discontinued replacement smoke, So now I have a bunch of junk with no extra smoke to fix them.:(

I don't find the advertisements -offensive- but they are definitely cluttering up the place! How about aggravating instead?
