My brain is my ad blocker. I ignore most ads.
If I want to buy something I can probably find it.

I do not block ads, I could. But I do not want to be a total moocher. I will even click on some, Just for grins. :D

I stopped paying when politics arrived. I would rather see ads.

$410 a year? Wow. Hostgator and BlueHost are Way, way cheaper...

It's true that many sites are a labor of love, but I'd wager few, if any, of the size and extent of QRZ are such, at least not purely such.

"If you aren't paying money and being the customer, you are the product." Generally true for QRZ, Facebook, any sizable site, and I'm ok with it. I use Facebook and other "free" sites. I use QRZ but I pay for it, more to support it and get access to the member only boards than to be the customer instead of the product, though.

I have heard that Facebook has ads now.

I have not verified that, I don't go there Normally, So I see nothing.

I don't doubt there are cheaper options, I haven't really looked, but the website I pay for is relatively large ( several thousand pages ), with relatively large file transfers ( compared to most ), and the web-hosting comes with lots of features ( tools ). I mostly pay for volume and speed and reliability. I also stay with this host to enable keeping the email address I have had for decades, provided by the host and not the domain. Emails to the domain are automatically delivered to my personal email account.

So. No ads. No cookies. No marketing. And $410 seems like a small price to pay for the convenience.

I pay a bit for my webspace. But it is worth it.

My own Apache server and a Cloud that only I have access to. :)

With the recent change to the Cleveland Indians, To keep from Butt Hurting natives, The new name for Apache may be Trump. Then everyone can be butt hurt.

    Have Fun Everyone.
