...I am late to the party; I know. I have been reading all the different posts for connecting to digital and issues that people have had. What I am looking for is

    1. an interface that I will not have to replace if I want to run all current available digital modes.
    2. is the SCU-17 the one to use?
    3. is the TCXO necessary for the digital operation with the 857d?

I am not saying money is no object just don't want to buy and get frustrated when can't get it working. I know trail and error is to be expected but maybe some user recommendations will cut these to a minimum.

    Thanks in advance

    SignaLink and no TXCO. IMHO

TXCO would be preferable for more stability
Rignblaster Nomic works fine, but there are cheaper solutions you can find on E-Bay
The digital modes are all processed by computer software....

I found a review of a CHI TCXO for my 857 that showed it was accurate within spec. $16 bucks. Not necessary though. You DO need a free clock sync app on the computer you use or a GPS based sync source.
I use a SignalLink but is bulky IMO.
I also use this Bluetooth interface for the CAT port it was only 10 bucks and works great!
