I'm only asking this question because I did not see it else where.

I understand that QRZ has went to a subscription for the xml data download. I do understand that it is $30.00. What I'm not understanding is why? I use HRD and N3FJP logbooks and they only will pull the first and last name which does me absolutely NO GOOD.

Why is it that I can log into QRZ, type in the callsign and get all the pertinent info for FREE but in order for QRZ to work with my logbook I have to pay $30.00 for a subscription each year to receive FREE FCC DATA.

I don't mean to come across rude or inconsiderate, but I'm just curious?

    Thanks much,

I use Ham Radio Deluxe (HRD) and it pulls all the info from the XML feed into the HRD logbook entry. Maybe you should speak with the developer for the logbook program you are using.

As for why there is a fee, I can think of a few reasons. First, this is a business for the site owner and he's in business to make enough money to live off. There is additional info for US hams beyond what the FCC site has such as grid square, QSL info, etc. There is also non-US hams here on QRZ and not in the FCC database. Can you find the name, address, grid square and QSL info for a ham you contacted overseas?

The above are just some of what comes to mind when I think about your question.
