The Dick Perry (N9RP) Memorial Picnic & Mobile Shootout

This event started several years ago by a group of hams that call 3875 kHz their home. It has expanded to the wonderful gathering of those (a handful) and many more (60-70 last count) hams over the years. The event is usually held twice a year. Once in the spring (usually 2nd Wednesday in June) and the fall event is usually the end of September or first of October. The site of the picnic has been in Anderson, Indiana, for the last several years, at Mounds State Park. I missed the opportunity to meet and know Dick Perry (N9RP), but from what others say about him, we lost a dear friend and all around Great guy when he became a silent key. He is sadly missed by all.

Originally people would start arriving at the park around 9:00 - 10:00 AM CDT and most still do. Some arrive in Anderson the night before electing to use local lodging and then leaving for home the morning after the event.
As people start arriving at the park on Wednesday morning there is a lot of socializing and eyeballing of the many different antenna installations. Some meeting for the first time after talking on the air with each other for many years. By the time everyone gets settled in and introductions have all been made, it is time to put on the feedbag. Man you have never seen a spread like the one at this picnic. Almost everyone brings a covered dish and there is always plenty for everyone. After lunch there are a few that have brought musical instruments and there is plenty of good Pickin' and Grinin'.

There is always a swappin' table for those who have things they no longer need themselves and want to move on to others. Almost always there are some pretty nice things there. Be sure to bring your gud stuff.
Sometime after lunch the Shootout begins. For details and rules for the shootout look at http://www.kj9t.com
There are generally all kinds of mobile antennas tested and there is always one the exceeds them all. Come watch the microvolts being split.

Then around dusk there is a fire built in the fireplace of the shelter and the remaining food is consumed.
I could go on for hours expounding on the fun and fellowship of this event. Instead I would like to invite you to come and join us. Bring a covered dish and your latest mobile antenna and see how it stacks up to the rest. If u don't have a mobile antenna, simply join us for a great get together. Remember you do have to plan to have fun and enjoy yourself.
