    USS battleship Texas ( http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/battleship_texas/)
is anchored on the Buffalo Bayou ( Houston Ship Channel) in San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site. In 1948, the Battleship Texas became the first battleship memorial museum in the U.S. That same year, on the anniversary of Texas Independence, the Texas was presented to the State of Texas and commissioned as the flagship of the Texas Navy. In 1983, the Texas was placed under the stewardship of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

    Check http://www.na5dv.org/ for latest update.

The customary entrance fee to the museum will be waived by Park Service if you identify yourself as “ ham radio geek”,however, donation towards ship's ongoing restorations won't be refused.
Plan to spend few hours wandering around the historical battlewagon. Many parts of the ship are accessible to general public and kids have a great time climbing the ladders and operating the AA guns.
    See ya there

    Thank you note from NA5DV

The motley crew of Battleship Texas ,NA5DV, would like to thank to all who participated in Museum Ships Weekend.
Many young visitors to the historic battlewagon expressed appreciation to all amateurs who are keeping the otherwise boring history alive. The older, especially military visors, folks appreciate this kind of event as a positive remembrance of their service days.
And with hurricane season at our doorsteps we also used this event to publicize amateur service in an emergency and got very positive response from many.

And to all you Houston TX “non-contesters” and "non-participants" in this kind of events due to Texas heat – it was 105 yesterday and we had no clue about it operating in the comfort of airconditioned Ships Storekeeper office, using ship's non airconditoned coffe break room! ( The ship's main AC panel smoked!)

On the negative side – I do not think Texas parks department will let us do BBQ on the deck, sorry.
