It likely adjusts the amount of time the switch from transmit to receive takes place.

How does the manual define it? Or does it not?

    Yes, it does, page 50

So let me ask this... Is it the explanation in the manual that you don't understand? I.e. "What is hang time?"

By the way, this setting only means something if you are transmitting.

When operating in 'semi-break-in' the rig switches to transmit the instant you tap the key.

When you release the key the transmit rf stops, but the rig stays in the transmit mode for a period of time determined by the delay setting.

In FULL break-in, QSK mode, the rig switches to receive at the same instant you release the key.

"Hang time" is the amount of time the rig stays in the transmit mode after you release the key (OR if you are on phone, it's when your VOX switches back to receive.

Agree with K3XR. The FT450 manual, page 78, describes CW Delay as "sets receiver recovery time during CW semi-breakin operation".

CW semi-breakin involves a pre-set time in ms that your radio will switch from transmit mode to receive mode after you stop sending.

Think you meant page 48 in that manual?

The one I got from Yaesu website had that on page 50.

How many manuals are out there for the 450 I wonder?

It's how long the football is in the air after a punt.

It can also mean how long a basketball player is in the air on the way to slamming a goal.:)
