    That was a good read. It should be noted that some contest sponsors don't accept paper logs and REQUIRE electronic logs in Cabrillo format. Also, when "running", you want to give the callsign of the station answering your CQ (so he knows you're calling him).

    Logging software can create info that changes with each contact such as serial number or the other station's callsign using a "wildcard". On fone, a set of sound files is used, typically a.wav thru z.wav + 0.wav thru 9.wav etc. The software "concatenates" sound files to build the appropriate callsign or number. Some software can do a dupe check and send either the exchange or a "sorry OM, wk b4" message. With careful sound file creation/editing, it's almost possible to operate a complete fone contest w/o using a microphone.
