Charles Warner Kenworthey, Jr. Chuck Kenworthey passed peacefully at his home with his family in San Antonio on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at the age of 71. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles W. Kenworthey, Sr. He is survived by his mother, Dottie B. Kenworthey; brother, Jack; brother, Rick and wife Melanie; nieces, Shara Kenworthey and Tanya Forks (Davy); and great nephew, Nolan. Chuck was born with Cerebral Palsy, and although he spent his life in a wheelchair, he absolutely did not let CP define him. He lived a more full, rich, joyful and grace filled life than most of us with no physical challenges. His parents made sure Chuck had every opportunity to excel, and when there was no option, they worked tirelessly to create one. There was no high school in NEISD with an elevator until his mother worked with the then superintendent, Virgil Blossom, to have the first elevator at Churchill. Chuck was given a standing ovation at graduation and was the "Heart and Soul" of the Class of 1971 for over 50 years. Some of his many accomplishments included courses at San Antonio College in Electronics, Physics and Math, FCC Radiotelephone License from Elkins Institute, SBE TV Operator Certificate, and Amateur Radio Extra Class License (WB5FWI). His employment included KITE Radio, Datapoint Corp, KLRN TV for over 17 Years, Rogers Cable, and EKG Motors. Chuck was involved with the United Cerebral Palsy Association, which his parents started here. Chuck served as a Director for The Council on Independent Living, Officer & Director of San Antonio Repeater Org, AARO Amateur Radio Club, ARRL American Radio Relay League, and the San Antonio Radio Club. Chuck lived independently for the past 41 years, with the more pleasing sound of his Jazz Music. When you walked through Chuck's door, you saw the many beautiful photographs he has taken over the years, mostly of Hawaii. He made 12 trips there. The first couple were with his parents and godparents, Herky & Riajune Fulcher. The third and his favorite was 7 days in Maui on his honeymoon. All subsequent trips were to Maui until he had to postpone this year’s trip due to the fire that destroyed Lahina. Photos of an Alaskan cruise on a family reunion, pictures from three road trips he took to the YMCA in Colorado and photos from 2 road trips to San Francisco. One trip he drove 2,700 miles over 17 days including stops at Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon. He also made an Amtrack trip to San Francisco. Chuck not only loved to travel, he never passed up a party or gathering. His Christmas parties were epic. A huge highlight of Chuck's week for the past 15 years was his Churchill buddy’s gathering at Chuck's. What became evident was that Chuck's joy came through always. Friends were witness to Chuck requiring 10 times the effort to perform any and every task he chose to tackle and never once did he complain. The group always left Chuck’s with the feeling that their life was better. Chuck was on the Vestry at St George Episcopal Church where he began at age 5, following in his Father's footsteps. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 30, 2024, at St. George Episcopal Church.
