    MESA, AZ formally from Himrod, NY- Charles Fr. Swarts, Jr. age 87, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles and Gertrude Knapp Swarts, Sr. passed away peacefully on May 13, 2018 at his home in Mesa, Arizona after a long illness with his daughter Barbara Rugg at his side after nine years of caring for him since the passing of his wife Cora Mae Corbitt Swarts. They married on September 10, 1949.

    A celebration of life will be held at the Penn Yan American Legion on July 14, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. with burial to follow a Cemetery in Himrod.

    In lieu of flowers donation may be made to give the Hospice care that helped take care of him for several months.

    Charles was born on May 10, 1931 and grew up in Himrod, New York.
    Charles enlisted in the Army in 1949 as part of the 9th Division Infantry Fort Dix, N.J.
    Went to Fort Hood, Texas where he was trained and certified as a radio operator. He was discharged in 1954 with the rank of Sergeant. His reserve duty was from 1954 to 1957.

    He worked on the N.Y. Central Railroad and at Penn Yan Boats before settling in for over 30 years at the Greenidge Station in Dresden for NYSEG where he retired in the 80's.

    Charles loved the railroad and had model train setup for many years spanning up to 16' by 8' with all the bells and whistles.
    He also maintained his Ham Operator License and loved talking to people all over the globe.

    His wife and children were everything to him and he worked hard to provide for all.

    He is survived by his nine children and 25 grandchildren, cousins and in-laws. Children from oldest to youngest Glenis Swarts and partner Kim of Penn Yan, Gary (Barbara) Swarts of Arizona, Barbara Swarts Rugg of Arizona, Roger (Cindy) Swarts of Arizona, Joseph Swarts of Geneva, N.Y., Andrew Swarts and partner Orlando Rodriguez of Geneva, N.Y., Douglas (Lorna) Swarts of Parish, N.Y., Dale (Brenda) Swarts of Waterloo, N.Y., Norman (Pattie) Swarts of Penn Yan; 25 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.

    Charles was predeceased by his parents, Mr. Charles Fr. Swarts, Sr. and Mrs. Gertrude Knapp Swarts; his wife, Cora Mae Corbitt Swarts of 60 years, and in-laws.
